From April 22 to 25, 2013, the Europe Commission (the committee set up to establish guidelines for the new consolidated Province of Europe) met for the sixth time at Valpré, a suburb of Lyon, France. As always, the welcome was warm. (See photos).
We took advantage of our presence in the capital of the Gauls to spend time with the communities of Valpré, Debrousse and Albertville. They were all wonderful occasions. Back in Albertville, we stopped at the home of Sylvain Gasser (assistant provincial of France) to enjoy a delicious meal with his parents and sisters.
14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either.
Around 10 A.M., on Wednesday March 13, Very Rev. Benoît Grière, A.A. the superior general of the Assumptionists, arrived at the community of Lourdes in Santiago. He was accompanied by one of his assistants, Fr. Marcelo Marciel.
It’s 5 PM. Crowds are filling up St. Peter’s Square. Not a hint of a smile, but all eyes are fixed on the huge outdoor screens that have been installed on the square. Is the Pope dead ? No ! But he has stepped down as pope. He is leaving the Vatican because in three hours his renunciation of the Petrine ministry will take effect.
You all know that the duty of the Conclave was to give a bishop to Rome. It seems that my brother Cardinals have gone almost to the ends of the earth to get him… but here we are. I thank you for the welcome that has come from the diocesan community of Rome.
Cardinal Tauran, in spite of his many responsibilities, accepted an invitation to spend time with us in the midst of all the busy preparations for the conclave. Cardinal Tauran, a Frenchman, is very close to the Assumption. It was his second visit to the general house of the Augustinians of the Assumption.
Since February 26 Very Rev. Benoît Grière, A.A., the superior general of the Augustinians of the Assumption (Assumptionists), has been here on our continent. Fr. Grière, together with one of his assistants, Rev. Marcelo Marciel (a Chilean), is making his first canonical visit to the communities of the Province of Chile - Argentina.
