Fr. Joseph Pek Ho and his parents
“Today Saturday, November 24, 2007, thanks to God’s infinite love and precious help, and to your friendship and prayers,
our Assumptionist brother Joseph BAIK HO was ordained a priest for the service of the Kingdom of God.
The ordination of this first Korean Assumptionist priest was performed by Archbishop Victorino YOUN, archbishop emeritus of Kwangju.
The newly ordained priest will celebrate his first Mass Sunday, November 25, 2007, on the feast of Christ the King, in the chapel of the Assumptionist community in Kwangju. Our prayer is intense these days: it is our support and our encouragement.”

Archbishop Antoine Varthalitis (1924-2007), Assumptionist and archbishop emeritus of Corfou, has just passed away this Saturday, October 27, 2007, at the age of 83, in Athens, following a brief illness.
Some called him “The Bishop of the Islands” (article by Father Gallay, A.A., in L’Assomption et ses Œuvres, July 1999) because this Assumptionist was born on Syros Island, became Archbishop of Corfou in 1962, and Apostolic Vicar of Thessalonica in 1992.
On his paradisiacal island, the one on which Nausicaa helped Ulysses
and where Empress Sissi of Austria built her Achilleion Castle, there
are only 3000 Catholics on a total population of 105,000.
During the off-season, the pastoral ministry is focused on all the
parishes, but everything changes during the tourist season. The big
hotels are full and the Catholic tourists call upon the bishop and his
priests for the sacraments and Sunday Masses. Before becoming a
bishop, he had been the assistant pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Church
in Piraeus.
