Brothers Raúl and Carlos Dear brothers and friends of the Assumption,
Thirty years ago, our brothers Raúl and Carlos Antonio were forcibly removed from their home never to be seen again, but they have never been absent from the mind and heart of their community and their families. We rightly condemn the violence and injustice of their detention and subsequent death. No Christian or human motive can ever justify such deeds. |

Implementation of the General Chapter of 2005
« Os discípulos de Emaús » Claudio Pastro “Prompted by the Spirit and inspired by Mary’s example, we choose to risk our lives in the adventure of encountering God…” and to go “wherever God is threatened in man and man threatened in the image of God.” (Rule of Life, #24 and 4) The General Council has one essential mission: to implement the decisions of the General Chapter. Consequently, since June, we have studied its decisions and tried to understand its underlying objectives. In this letter, we would like to share with you the thinking that has been ours and to communicate some of the elements of a program of animation that will allow us to implement the Chapter’s decisions.
Of course, we are directing this letter to all Assumptionist religious, the young and the less young, those who are in formation, those who are in retirement homes, those working in their own country or in a far-away mission, those in parishes or schools, those working with the marginalized of our societies, and those in studies. It is also directed to Assumptionist lay people, who share with the religious the charism and mission of our family. |

Dear friends, As we prepare to celebrate the 160th anniversary of our founding on Christmas in 1845, when Fr. d’Alzon and five companions (one layman and four priests) began their life together as Assumptionist novices, I’ve been thinking about our novices in six different novitiates around the world and about you as well. Without lay people like yourselves, very likely there would not have been a founding at all. |
