To All Assumptionist novices

Dear Albert, Aníbal Patricio, Bienvenu, Célio, Charles, Edward, Elvis, Elysé, Fleury, Florentin, GiaDinh, Isidore, Jean Berthin, Jean Ignace, Jean Paul, Jean-Claude, Jean-Marie, Jean-Marie, Jean-Marie, Jeannot, Joakim, Jorge, Matabishi, Mihaï-Julian, Monulphe, Nicolas, Pierre, Regis, Richard, Richard, Venceslas, Victor, Vincent, and Vital,

This Christmas we celebrate the 160th anniversary of our founding (in 1845). I think of you because on Christmas of that year, Father d’Alzon was himself a novice with five companions (a layman and four other priests). Those first six Assumptionist novices began to lay the foundations for their life together and in so doing for the religious body of which you and I are members today.

I was with them for their last few days together, and at the closing Eucharist Fr. Miguel, the Superior of the community, asked me to give a few parting words. What I said was simple: walk with Jesus Christ, be real brothers for each other, and be witnesses of the Gospel and not just religious functionaries.
