Argentina: The Alliance is up and running
The 21st of each month (in memory of November 21, the day on which Father d’Alzon died), approximately thirty lay Assumptionists meet next to the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes with  the Assumptionist community of Santos Lugares (Buenos Aires).  The purpose of their meetings is to pray together, share their brotherhood, and learn about Assumptionist spirituality.
“We sense that there is great interest among laypeople in knowing about the Assumptionist family, its founder, its works, its charism.  For a long time, laypeople have been expressing this need.  The time has now come to satisfy this desire” (Cristina Berardi: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

A retreat was held on July 21 in which 32 laypersons and 2 religious participated. The day was divided into three periods: First, two testimonies on Christian commitment.  Second, a time of silence and prayer with a few texts from Father d’Alzon and the Rule of Life of the Assumptionists.  Finally, the Eucharist and a sharing of what each one had meditated on.

Plovdiv en Bulgarie
August 25 – September 15, 2007

The training session for the Near Eastern Mission in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, is certainly an event that will mark the life of our congregations: that of the Augustinians and of the Oblates of the Assumption.

This three-week session, the follow-up to a desire clearly expressed by our General Chapters of 2005, gathers about thirty male and female religious from four different continents.

These religious answered the call of our General Councils, accepting to distribute information about the Eastern Tradition and ecumenism to the brothers and sisters in their province and in their local Church.

D’Alzon, light on our path
We will long remember the rain that fell without interruption on the morning of 3 June in Saint Peter’s square, but it’s not the only thing we’ll remember about the event that the Assumption family celebrated on that day. Marie-Eugénie de Jésus was made a saint for the whole Church, and yet she seemed closer than ever to so many of us gathered that morning to pray. I was struck by the joy on the faces and in the hearts of the sisters of course, but also among the Assumptionists, the young Assumption students, and the many lay friends of the Congregation. Marie-Eugénie really seemed to be a mother or a sister or a friend to so many.
And, without fail, each sister that approached me would say: “Next time, it will be Father d’Alzon.”
That day will come, I am confident, the more we draw closer to the person of Father d’Alzon, as I sensed so many people had allowed Marie-Eugénie to draw close to them.
You can think of Father d’Alzon in many roles: as Church leader, religious founder, public reformer, educator, pastor, preacher… We have explored many of these dimensions and come to measure the greatness of the man. >>>
