Sr. Diana Wauters The General Chapter elected Sr. Diana Wauters as the new Superior General of the Religious of the Assumption. We rejoice and are glad! "The Assumption family embraces various religious congregations including the Assumptionists, the Religious Sisters of the Assumption, the Little Sisters of the Assumption, and the Oblates of the Assumption, to mention the major institutes. These branches of the family were all born in the course of the 19th century. The Religious of the Assumption were founded by Marie-Eugénie de Jésus in 1839. Emmanuel d'Alzon, the founder of the Assumptionists, acted as her spiritual director for nearly 40 years (1841-1880) and they collaborated closely throughout their lives. For many years the young Marie-Eugénie, after the foundation of her own congregation, strongly encouraged d'Alzon, vicar-general of the diocese of Nîmes, to found a similar order of men. He did so, finally, in 1845."(Fr. John Franck) |

We, the 70 religious men and women who have recently participated in the third Riad (International encounter of the Assumption for dialogue) from July 27 to August 6 in Nairobi, wish to share with the body of Sisters and brothers of our congregations the essence of what we have just had the joy and the chance to live here. Our encounter in fact has been a “first” in Assumptionist history: never had representatives of our entire religious family (AA, RA, OA, PSA, OrA and even Missionariers of the Assumption) gathered in the African continent to learn its history, to become aware of its present state, and to contemplate its future. |
