Brothers Raúl and Carlos

Dear brothers and friends of the Assumption,

Thirty years ago, our brothers Raúl and Carlos Antonio were forcibly removed from their home never to be seen again, but they have never been absent from the mind and heart of their community and their families.

We rightly condemn the violence and injustice of their detention and subsequent death.  No Christian or human motive can ever justify such deeds.

The Assumption has been blessed with the testimony of three Bulgarian brothers beatified as martyrs by Pope John Paul II.  We know that the death of the just, however violent and senseless, always bears fruit for the Kingdom.  During their lives, Raúl and Carlos manifested a passionate love for their people and a deep yearning to draw ever closer in prayer to their loving Savior.  Their witness and their ultimate sacrifice enrich our lives and nourish our hope.

I speak for the Assumptionists throughout the world in thanking the Lord for the gift of these two brothers and in assuring their brothers and their families in Argentina of our faithful affection and prayers.

In the risen Lord,

Richard E. Lamoureux, a.a., Superior General
