“All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.” (Acts, 4, 32)
The 39th Council of the Congregation has heard this passage of the Acts during their first Eucharist celebrated in the chapel of the general house. For an Augustinian Congregation like ours, this quote is probably a sign of encouragement, an incentive to be faithful to our roots.
Emmanuel Kahindo, assistant general, who presided the Mass, inspired himself with it to preach on the necessity to put our riches in common as well as our weaknesses. Assumption has a great ambition that it must never forget and even if our realizations are modest, we must have a great and a wide vision. God sustains us !
During the round table discussion, held every morning, to permit us to draw up “the red thread” starting from what each person has retained of the preceding day, it’s the liturgy that has strongly marked the participants. The morning Mass but also the evening prayer time led by Nicolas Tarralle to prepare us spiritually to delve into the theme of “Justice and Peace”, an important file on the agenda of the council. Finally, Richard signaled that the pizza which he had shared with Vincent Kambere, provincial of Africa was excellent. We are far from spiritual considerations, but Father General will consecrate most of the evenings to meeting with the provincials one after the other around a pizza, so it’s a must that they be good! |
