Group Justice and Peace Marie-Sophie d’Oultremont, religious of the Assumption and Nicolas Taralle, Assumptionist, have been invited to help us in our reflection on the theme of « Justice and Peace ». They are not experts on the matter but only a brother and a sister, witnessing our discussions and our questions to help us go ahead. The Provincials were able, one after another, to present how their Province dealt with this apostolic axis.
The diversity of experiences has comforted each of us in the idea that Assumption has not abandoned its solidarity with the poorest and weakest. The Provincial of Africa has discovered that the commitment for justice and peace was not a preoccupation of young churches, but also that of Europe and North America. It also appeared that we need to integrate more strongly in the formation of the Assumptionist a preparation to a social apostolate. In the afternoon, we started to study the “economic dossiers” of the Congregation. Father General reminded that sharing on the economic life of the Provinces and on the requests for solidarity was a concrete way to apply our preoccupation for justice. The information on accounts and budgets is not only internal business, it is applied solidarity. The day was “rich in matter” and it stayed under the sign of “listening and trust” which allows us to talk about touchy subjects, like cultural difference.
