Bishop Vincent Ri and Fr. Richard Lamoureux
This Wednesday, April 2, the Council of the Congregation was honored by the visit of Bishop Vincent Ri (pronounced Li) Pyung-ho, Bishop of Chonju.
You should know that the ecclesiastical region of Kwangju includes: the archdiocese of Kwangju, the diocese of Chonju (just north of us), and the diocese of Cheju, a large island located about 60 miles south of the Korean peninsula.
The Council of the Congregation with Bishop Vincent Ri
After lunch – which he shared with us – Bishop Ri spent the afternoon
explaining in a very friendly fashion how the diocese operates. In
thanking him, Father General underlined how the Bishop had helped us
understand some of the particularities of this Church which seems so
rich and already very missionary. The Bishop concluded: “It’s a grace
to see all of you who come from the four corners of the world, brothers
gathered together on the road leading to the Lord.”
A member of our assembly summarized the afternoon in these words: “Make the word of God central to our mission.”
On this April 2, during an extraordinary meeting of the General Council
which brought together all the members of the Curia, Father General
called to the priesthood Brothers Nicodemus FROLON from Russia and Eric
RAHARIVERO from Madagascar. These calls reinforce our missionary
priority. We rejoice with these future Assumptionist priests.
In the evening, we wished a Happy Birthday to our Assistant, Father André!
And on April 3rd, the feast of St. Richard, we fittingly extended our best wishes to Father General.
