Using the same procedure as on previous days, the Council heard the reports of the Provincial of Spain and of the Vice-Provincial of Madagascar. These reports were followed by the reactions of the assembly.
The Council discussed the theme of “Consecrated Life”:
- Consecrated life invites us to focus our lives on the Lord and the Kingdom.
- We were called and we have responded: this is a grace!
- We find it difficult to speak about it … out of modesty?
- A requirement: “To be sincere and transparent,” which supposes great trust in our brothers.
- Importantly, we must know how to evangelize cultures by frequenting the Gospel and the Rule of Life.
- Saint Augustine insisted very much on interiority.
Celebration of Tree Day
AT THE END OF THE MORNING: the “planting of a tree.”
During the Japanese occupation, many mountains and hills were
deforested in Korea. In order to restore the traditional environment,
it was decided later on to designate April 5 as Tree Day.
On that day many groups interested in preserving nature symbolically plant trees.
We honored this tradition by solemnly planting a “broom tree” at the
beginning of the Way of the Cross recently erected on the property of
the guest house where we are staying and which belongs to the
Passionists. The two officiating priests were Father Lucas Chuffart,
who was celebrating his birthday, and his former novice, Father Joseph
Baïk-Ho.
Planting of tree
The afternoon was given over to group work. Among the topics discussed: “finances” and the approaching “2010 Bicentennial.”
During the evening, an indispensable rite took place: the official
induction of the two new members of the Council of the Congregation:
Father Niceto Calle, Provincial of Spain, and Father Michel Jary, Vice-
Provincial of Madagascar.
Father Emmanuel Rospide – the member most experienced in these matters
– was in charge of operations! The two candidates brilliantly
succeeded in passing the suggested tests!
The evening continued on a joyful note!
