Commitment and send-off
Friday September 5, we found ourselves at 7 AM at the tomb of St. Peter to celebrate the Eucharist presided by Fr. General, Richard Lamoureux, who, in his homily, spoke about the newness that Christ inaugurated and which we, the heirs of Saint Augustine and of Father d’Alzon are called to live by. This newness is Christ himself, the new man whom we must know, imitate, love, and follow while journeying with Him.
As we were leaving the basilica, we stopped at the tomb of Venerable
John Paul II. To pray with the first and the last Pope in our history
to be buried in St. Peter’s was like being sent on our doctrinal
mission with a doctrine that is total and complete, i.e. to say, which
includes the entire history of the Church, and with a doctrine which we
are to make our own and communicate first of all by what we are
personally, added Fr. Richard, then by our apostolic activity.
When we got back, in a meeting, Fr. Richard encouraged us and sent us
forth, giving each participant a personal and very touching letter
sending us off on our mission.
Then Fr. Jean-Paul Périer-Muzet, our archivist and historian, continued
to amaze us by his competence, his elephant’s memory, and his love for
Fr. d’Alzon and the big Assumption Family!
The afternoon was dedicated to a personal evaluation of the session
which we will share tomorrow morning before the closing Mass to be
celebrated by Fr. Julio Navarro, Vicar General.
During this Eucharist each participant in the session, by means of a
very simple gesture, renewed his commitment to belong to Christ and his
deep desire to follow him.
