New foundation in Brazil

On February 4, 2026, the new Assumptionist mission officially began in the diocese of Divinópolis-MG. The new community is located in the town of Pará de Minas, near the Minas Gerais state capital, Belo Horizonte, and has Saint Anthony as its patron saint.

This new community is made up of the superior and parish priest, Father Luiz Carlos, Father Felix and Brother Deacon Leonardo. The parish is made up of the Mother Church and 13 other communities. It is a lively parish community, with a variety of movements and pastoral activities.

The installation mass for the new religious community, presided over by diocesan bishop Mons. Giovane Luís, the provincial of Brazil and his council, several diocesan priests, religious men and women from various congregations in the diocese, and a large number of faithful were present.

Added to this warm, fraternal welcome is the enthusiasm with which the brothers who are taking on this new mission are devoting themselves to the most diverse evangelization services in this new place for the Congregation of the Augustinians of the Assumption. The warm welcome we have received, added to the enthusiasm with which we have begun, are promising signs that, with God’s grace, the new mission will bear much fruit for the coming of the Kingdom.

May Saint Augustine, the venerable Père d’Alzon and Our Lady of the Assumption intercede for our mission.

Fr. Deacon Leonardo de Almeida Castro, A.A.
