In the turbulent nineteenth century, Father Emmanuel d’Alzon (1810-1880), passionate about the great causes of God and humanity, founded the Augustinians of the Assumption (or Assumptionists) in 1850. D’Alzon was deeply affected by the divisions that prevailed in the world and became a promoter of unity and reconciliation.
To enter into the spirit of the Assumption, there is a door and a key: the Kingdom of God and the love of Jesus Christ. To enter and breathe deeply with both lungs, Father Emmanuel d’Alzon, our founder, gave us two mottos: “Thy Kingdom come” and “For the love of Jesus Christ.”
The future is not predetermined; it belongs to us. It is through our commitment, lay people and religious together, that we will be able to advance on the path to the Kingdom. There is a world waiting for hope and love. Are we ready to work so that the world may discover the abundance of God’s tenderness? Father Benoît GRIÈRE, Superior General.
If you desire to give yourself to Jesus Christ, making him the strongest reason for living and serving him in the Church with brothers and sisters in apostolic community, then the Assumption has a place for you. To be an Assumptionist is to be a man of challenges, to go where God is threatened in man and where man is threatened as the image of God.
