Argentina: Fourth stage of the canonical visit
And finally, Argentina...
Crossing the Andes, Father Ngoa, Father João, and Father Bolívar arrived at the end of the canonical visit and were welcomed by the two religious communities of Buenos Aires, our young students, various faithful, and members of the Lay-Religious Alliance.
With nearly 115 years of history, the Assumption was established in this country by the famous Father Roman HEITMAN (1869-1941) on September 30, 1910. A huge statue honors his remarkable influence and leadership in the Belgrano neighborhood (Buenos Aires capital). The name of this founder of the Argentine mission even ended up replacing the name of our founder, Emmanuel d'Alzon, for one of the two Assumptionist schools in the city, the current Instituto San Roman, founded in 1916.
This history is also marked by the testimony of our martyred brothers, Assumptionist religious who were kidnapped and disappeared on June 4, 1976. They were Argentinians Raúl Eduardo Rodríguez and Carlos Antonio Di Pietro, after whom our CIFA (International Assumptionist Formation Community) is named. It is currently located in the Martin Coronado neighborhood, about 6 km from the famous Sanctuary of Lourdes in Santos Lugares (1922-1967).
This sanctuary remains attractive, dynamic, and popular, with its imposing neo-Gothic architecture in the upper temple. It is there, out of love for Christ and to proclaim the hope of the Gospel, that the Assumptionist brothers of this community work: Argentinians, Congolese, Ecuadorians, and Colombians.
May the Virgin of Lourdes protect them, give them health and peace in their mission for the coming of the Kingdom.
