At the heart of the life of our Provinces!

The second day of our PGC, on the feast of the martyrs of Uganda, was mainly devoted to sharing news about our Provinces. The Vice-Province of East Africa, the Province of Madagascar, the Andean Province, the Province of North America, and finally the Province of Africa were able to share with us important elements of the life of their provinces since the last PGC.

In fact, this time of sharing is far from being just a one-way exchange of information. It is a truly special space where each provincial can share his joys, concerns, and challenges freely, knowing that he is understood by brothers who bear the same type of responsibility. In addition, the members of the PGC respond significantly to the various presentations... For example: with the Vice-Province of East Africa, we had the opportunity to follow up and deepen the decisions taken at the last PGC concerning the establishment of a postulancy in Uganda; with the Province of Madagascar, we had the joy of seeing the completion of the construction of the Novitiate chapel, financed 50% locally and 50% by the congregation's Medium-Term Real Estate Plan, and also to discuss the establishment of the new provincial team. In the Andean Province, the PGC encouraged the continuation of the vocational commitment of the brothers and lay friends, as the few current vocations come only from Ecuador and Colombia. With regard to the Province of North America, in addition to the delicate situations to be addressed in the three countries of the Province, we were able to assess the challenges of an important discernment concerning the community of El Paso, which can no longer fulfill its mission of helping migrants following the recent decisions of the Trump administration. Finally, we were positively impressed by the new dynamism injected into the Province of Africa in terms of self-financing, thanks to a significant loan granted by the Provinces of North America, Europe, and Brazil. The projects undertaken are very promising, and the members of the PGC were able to express their sincere encouragement while offering some advice and highlighting a few points for attention.

In addition, the members of the OGC shared some news from the international animation commissions: the Lay-Religious Commission; the JPIC Commission; the Communication Commission; the Pilgrimages Commission; and the Commission for the Mission of the East, Ecumenism, and Interreligious Dialogue. This is an opportunity to recall the JPIC session proposed by the Assumption family, “A world of living beings sharing a common home: new ways of inhabiting the planet and acting on behalf of the world's migrants.” This online session will take place from July 7 to 11, 2025, and is open to all members of our congregations involved in JPIC work.
