The Assumption family

The Religious of the Assumption (R.A.)

Their educational mission is rooted in the experience of their foundation in Paris in 1839 by Saint Marie-Eugénie Milleret. They work to evangelize through education in parishes, schools, youth centers, chaplaincies and shelters.

The Augustinians of the Assumption (or Assumptionists) A.A.

The Augustinians of the Assumption (A.A.) are a congregation of Catholic religious (priests and brothers) founded in Nîmes by Father Emmanuel d’Alzon in 1845. The congregation’s rule is inspired by that of Saint Augustine of Hippo, and it takes its name from this patronage and from the Collège de l’Assomption (now the Collège public Feuchères, in Nîmes), where teachers gathered around Emmanuel d’Alzon to embrace religious life.

The Oblates of the Assumption (O.A.)

The congregation of the Oblates of the Assumption, missionary nuns, was founded in 1865 by Father Emmanuel d’Alzon and Mother Emmanuel-Marie Correnson for missionary, ecumenical and charitable purposes.

Little Sisters of the Assumption (P.S.A.)

Apostolic religious sisters, often living in international communities. Following the intuition of their founders Antoinette Fage and Assumptionist Father Etienne Pernet in 1865, they work to bring about the Reign of God and to procure its Glory through the salvation of the poor and destitute. They are involved in social and health professions, education and pastoral action.

The Orantes of the Assomption (Or.A.)

This congregation was founded in 1896 by Assumptionist Father François Picard and Mother Isabelle de Clermont-Tonnerre. They dedicate themselves to prayer in the world for the works of the Assumption, for priests, for the Church and the world.

13 religious congregations were created by the three historical founders of the Assumption: Abbé Théodore Combalot, Mère Marie Eugénie de Jésus, Père Emmanuel d’Alzon and their successors.
