The visit to Chile gave Father General the opportunity to begin his canonical visit in Santiago, the capital, in the community serving the Sanctuary of Lourdes, where the Provincial Curia is also located, right next to the Parc de la Quinta Normal. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, with its imposing 70-metre-high central dome, 650 m² of stained glass by French artist Gabriel Loire, mosaics and various sculptures, was proclaimed a “minor basilica” by Pope John Paul II in 1992 and also boasts a beautiful grotto that imitates the original Lourdes grotto and attracts pilgrims from the metropolis and all over the country.

Still accompanied by Fathers Bolívar and João, Father Ngoa also visited the religious communities of El Golf, Lota, Valparaíso and Rengo, the town where the first 10 Assumptionists arrived in 1890. On the site of the foundation (Mendoza), some 100 km south of Santiago, is the Monastery of the Benedictine nuns who came to Spain from Oviedo in 1983.

The visit continued to the bicentenary Manuel d'Alzon College and other parishes entrusted to the Assumptionists in the country. In addition to personal meetings and the assembly with the brothers, there were many moments of sharing with bishops, representatives of pastoral movements, and the various lay groups of the Alliance.
